The Book Buzz #4

Welcome back to another “The Book Buzz” post! This is our 4th one to come since we started the feature in September, and writing these posts has really opened our eyes to the news in YA & MG books … and even movie adaptations! Here’s what we’ve seen recently:

The Allegiant Part 1 tie-in edition book cover was revealed! This edition releases February 16.

The date for Allegiant Part 2’s release (titled Ascendant) was also pushed back to June 9, 2017.

In other cover-related news, the cover for HEARTLESS by Marissa Meyer was revealed recently–and there have been some pretty mixed thoughts!

This book is a standalone retelling of Alice in Wonderland coming out in November. We think the cover is cool, though it can come across slightly placeholder-esque. I think we’re just used to a central object to look at on the cover, as is the case with the Lunar Chronicles. We do think the cover will have lots of symbolism, and the red/white/black colours really speak to the Queen of Hearts!

If you don’t already know about my love for BETWEEN SHADES OF GRAY, a WWII historical novel by Ruta Sepetys, you MUST. READ. IT. I picked it up from the library a few years ago, and it’s still one of my favourite books to date. I can’t believe I didn’t know this earlier, but the movie (titled Ashes in the Snow) is in pre-production and will film early 2016.

Ruta also shares tons of cool stuff about the movie on her twitter, like this!

And even though this is kind of older news, JK Rowling has some AWESOME tweets on the casting of a black Hermione. (You go, JK.)

What news have you heard recently? Have an awesome Monday!

I really like that cover for the movie tie-in edition of Allegiant.

I’m not a fan of the Heartless cover, though. In my opinion, it just looks so unfinished and plain. I guess I was expecting something over the top, like the covers for The Lunar Chronicles, well not like them, but on the same level of artistry. I also can’t help but think that it looks modeled after the covers for the line of Penguin and Puffin Classics.
