Review: Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

Hi everyone! Today Sarena and I will be reviewing CROWN OF MIDNIGHT by Sarah J. Maas. Sarena JUST finished this book this week, and since we posted a Throne of Glass review last week, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to review it for you guys.

CROWN OF MIDNIGHT is the sequel to Throne of Glass, a high fantasy YA novel we rated 4.5*. You can check out our review here.

We both thought this book was awesome, though we both agreed the beginning was slow. However, once THE PART happened–and you know what we’re talking about if you’ve read the book–we felt like this book really picked up. We felt Sarah J. Maas took some more risks with her writing, the story, and the characters.

This book definitely had a lot more fantastical elements, which we both loved, and while we enjoyed Throne of Glass we felt that this book picked up on the magical side of things.

There were tons of twists and jaw-dropping surprises in this book too. We also liked how the reader got to learn more about Celaena’s character and her past. It gave some good insight and helped to liven her character. And then there was the love triangle. Oh, dreaded love triangle. Now, most people are team Chaol, and though we think he’s a good character, we’re definitely more on team Dorian, even though Celaena’s pretty kick-butt by herself too.

Overall, we thought this book really expanded upon the world of Throne of Glass, and it was full of action-packed, humorous moments. We can’t wait to see how things are tied up in the rest of the series–only four more books to go!

Also, we need Heir of Fire… badly. Expect a review of that soon.
